Dr. Basti is a professor of ophthalmology at Northwestern University, Chicago. He is the Director of Innovation and Director of the Corneal fellowship program at Northwestern. He earned his medical degree at Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore. He trained at Sankara Nethralaya and LV Prasad Eye Institute and subsequently did a fellowship training at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX.
Dr. Basti has published more than 95 peer-reviewed journal articles and several book chapter. Since 2007, he was named each year to the list of “Best Doctors in America” and is listed on Newsweek’s best ophthalmologists in the US. Throughout his career, he has mentored ophthalmology residents and fellows and has had multiple “surgical teacher of the year” awards.
Dr. Basti has taught practicing doctors from around the world at several annual meetings of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and the American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS). He currently serves as the Chair of Cataract Committee for annual meeting of the AAO and on the jury panel for the ASCRS film festival. He has received the Senior Achievement award from the AAO. He prioritizes volunteering and has actively engaged in surgical missions to China and India.
