Professor Wang Yan is professor, Tianjin Medical University; Nankai University, Tianjin University and adjunct professor, American Nova Southeastern University, American Pacific University, and Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She was the first surgeon to have the advanced femtosecond laser small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) surgery in China. She has operated more than 80,000 refractive surgeries and more than 20,000 SMILE procedures. As the head trainer of the national and the Asia-Pacific region training center, she has trained over 3,000 surgeons from China and other Asian countries. She has presented more than 200 lectures and training courses in national and international conferences, such as APAO, ASCRS, ESCRS, WOC, AAO etc.
